Sometimes you come across an article that totally resonates with where you are. And this one did it for me.
Solvitur ambulando loosely translates from Latin as “it is solved by walking”.
(Many thanks to TheClikk for pointing me at this article in their latest newsletter, which is one of the best out there!)
And the more I think about it, the more this feels right.
❓ Feeling stiff after sitting at your desk all day? Take a walk to loosen up.
❓ Struggling with writer’s block? Take a walk to free your mind.
❓ Just had a difficult phone call or an argument? Take a walk to destress.
❓ Got a craving to binge on all the wrong foods? Take a walk to distance yourself from temptation.
❓ Feeling at a loss about what to do with yourself? Talk a walk because at least you’re doing something.
Walking is not just for dealing with tricky moments in life, of course. Build walking into your daily routine if you can. Even if it’s just to the local coffee shop and back for an espresso.
The benefits and power of walking cannot be overestimated. Particularly if you immerse yourself in the experience itself.
That means no headphones and no browsing on your smartphone. Be present. Experience the ground under your feet, the air (or even rain) on your face, and the sounds around you.
Walking is its own special kind of mindfulness. Treat yourself!
