So I had a clear plan of what I was going to achieve today. Well okay, it wasn’t that clear, but I had plans. Things to do.

And then there was a lot of mewing from my fabulous, delightful, occasionally evil cat Molly, after which I discovered a baby rabbit in the hallway. Not dead, no blood, but clearly in shock, and with unknown internal injuries. So my office has become a temporary rehab clinic and I’m pretty distracted, as you can imagine.

This is small potatoes really, I can keep an eye on Thumper and work.

But it got me thinking … how can we cope when things derail our best-laid plans? I did a bit of research online and here’s a summary of the advice I found:

✳️  Pause. Take stock. How far off course are you? Take a measurement.
✳️  Acknowledge it is frustrating. You’re allowed to be p***d off, that’s okay.
✳️  Have a Plan B – for each day, keep contingency activities in mind you can turn to
✳️  Be the agile flotilla of yachts, not the oil tanker. Embrace being flexible, it’s a life skill.
✳️  And finally, my personal favourite. “When You Can’t Do a Lot, Do a Little” or to put it another way: Do SOMETHING. Take action. Move forward. Even if it isn’t in quite the direction you envisaged.
